Town of Qualicum Beach
Council Endorsed Communication Strategy
Idea Camp has been contracted by the Town of Qualicum Beach since 2022 to lead the development and implementation of the organization’s annual communication strategy.
2023/24 the Council endorsed strategy focused on three goals:
Goal #1 Build trust in local government by establishing clear channels of communication between the public and the Town.
Goal #2 Improve digital communications for improved public access to relevant, timely information.
Goal #3: Generate proactive communications processes.
Public Inquiry System
To create strong pathways for public inquiries, and to ensure accurate and timely responses by staff, Idea Camp worked with the Corporate Services and IT departments to map pathways for inquiries from the public. The outcome of this work was the development of a digital tool to streamline public inquiries to a single pathway, improving how the Town processes and responds to requests for information.
Website Redevelopment
Idea Camp is leading a website redesign for the Town, project managing all elements of this major initiative, including the rewrite of over 250 pages of web copy. This project informed other initiatives to improve public service, including streamlining 40+ application forms and integration of the Public Inquiry System. The new site is set to launch Fall 2024.
Communication Channels
We set out to improve the Town’s communications channels, starting with an annual content plan. Consistent posting of strategic content on social media saw a 46% increase in followers (3612 to 5641) on Facebook in one year. Message responsiveness increased from 40% to 100%. By streamlining Constant Contact emailing lists, we achieved an incredible 75% open rate.
Annual Report + Financial Plan
Idea Camp created a new design for the Town of Qualicum Beach’s Annual Report and Financial Plan. The Town undertook a new strategic planning process, and this report was a the outcome of that work. In 2023 the organization used this as a template. Idea Camp supported with new page templates to update the look further.
